YOUR EYE MUST BE SINGLED
The book of Hosea 12:13 says that “and by a Prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, by a Prophet they are preserved.” WEBIC is a prophetic ministry so the message you are read is going to be prophetic. Today our working text will be Matthew 6:22-23.
EVE AND THE SERPENT
In the book of Genesis 3:1 we have the story of how Satan came to decoy or deceive Eve. And there Satan was represented as a serpent or a snake. People always think there was a physical appearance of a snake in the Garden of Eden, there was none. No snake actually showed up, it was just a representation of the characterization of a serpent.
God gave us the serpentine image or illustration to reveal to us the nature of the spirit or demon that got into Eve when she sinned. When you say somebody has a serpentine character you are saying he or she is like a snake or serpent, the serpent being the character. Most times, we focus too much on the appearance rather than or instead of the character of a person or being.
Matthew 6:22-23 (KJV) “22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Now what does it mean for your eyes to be singled. Considering my reference to the drama between Satan and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Your eyes must be singled means you must be focused. Your eyes must be focused. You must be undivided in your decisions.
To be single eyed is to have one heart, one mind and one spirit. Your eye must be single to walk in the miraculous. Why is this so? Because the eye is the door or gate of the body through which pictures or images get into our body. And when that picture gets into us it becomes light, because it is a good picture. Now if the images and pictures are wickedness, evil, evil spirits and evil desires, the light becomes darkness. Conversely, when the eye, consumes only righteousness, your whole body will be full of light and that light is the light of righteousness.
This is why the eyes need to be single. What does it mean for your eyes to be single? The word single means one. Single here means to be singularly connected, to be of one mind, to be of one heart, to be of one spirit. This brings us to the issue of lust.
LUST
Lust comes from what we see or look at. When we look at things that are not right, when we look at things we then lust for them.
DAVID
Now let us look at the story of David who is supposed to be a man after God's heart, he allowed his eyes to lust after a beautiful woman and in the process committed murder. His eye was not single.
In 2 Samuel 11:2, the scripture tell us how David neglected this principle in his life when he stopped applying the principle of singleness and oneness. David was a man of God, a prophet of God and a king who is supposed to rule according to the law of God. And we understood when his eyes stopped being single he committed adultery and murder.
In 2 Samuel 11:2 (KJV) “And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.”
David used his eyes to see. When he saw, his eyes stopped being single. The scripture says in the Garden of Eden that God Joined a man and a woman and they became one flesh. Which simply means the eyes of Adam and Eve became one. Their eyes became single from the union of marriage. Why? Because, they became one mind, one heart, one spirit. The Bible in the book of Matthew 18:6 says they are no more twain but one flesh. What God has hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Their eyes became single so there is no reason for them to go around looking for any other person in the area of desiring to connect themselves body, mind or soul, because they are already connected. They are already one and single. So, it is same unto us, we should let our eyes be single in everything that we do.
But then why do we lust after money? Why do we lust over material things? Doing things that are contrary to the will of God? Why do we find it so hard to fulfill what God has spoken in prophecy concerning our lives? We find it difficult to be faithful to God because, our eye is not singled, we are not focused, we don’t have one heart, one spirit and we are not single minded.
The Bible said David saw this woman beautiful to behold, so he desired her. So from that very moment on, from the time his eyes saw the woman, his eye stopped being single, he stopped being of one mind, one spirit and one heart with God and everything in his life started crumbling to the ground.
Firstly he saw the woman and he desire her and then he stopped being faithful with his covenant partner, next he committed adultery and then murder. He became a murderer because when David saw the woman his eye stopped being single.
David murdered the husband of the woman and married her. It did not end there. He became somebody that condemns. Because in the process of time, God sent Prophet Nathan to tell David his sin and mistake. The Prophet spoke in parable about a rich man who had 100s of sheep and a servant who has only one sheep……
Now David’s problem became a generational trend in his lineage. His son starts to lust after his own sister and eventually slept with her. After sleeping with her he hated her more than he loved or lusted for her. It all went from lust to rust and to dust. Next Absalom desires his father’s throne, he planned to kill David and usurp power in a coup de dat, a rebellion, which led to a civil war. Why did all these happen in David’s life? Because his eyes stopped being single.
You may want to ask, is it hard for somebody who has confessed Jesus Christ, to wake up one day to go and murder somebody else. It is not hard at all. Why? Because when your eye stops being single, you invite evil. The bible says the eye is the gate or entrance of your body, so if the light that enters you is darkness, evil, wickedness, evil spirit, and demons. How much darkness will there be in you? Great, I think very great darkness.
I have come to realize that the people we have problem with to convince about how God is being faithful and to convince them to be faithful to God, are people who do not have single eyes. People who are not; faithful in the area of relationships, who are not faithful in the area of keeping their body holy. You find out that when they are unfaithful towards their spouse, the unfaithfulness invites demons into their lives.
Now I like to say this, you need to make a covenant with your eye to be single or to be faithful. The Bible in the book of Job 31:1 & 7 says “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid. …….if my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes…..”
You need this covenant so you don’t need to continue giving birth to demonic powers in your life that after a while, you will not be able to conquer them.
Note that; David, committed adultery, which gave birth to evil spirits and demonic powers which eventually over powered him and that he could not control or conquer. It did not stop there. The demons adultery gave birth to, also entered his son and enticed him to sleep with his own sister and causing him to hate her after all. These demons continued with Absalom, David’ son who rebelled against his father, tried to kill him and take David’s throne. Why did all these bad things happen to David? Because his eyes stopped being single.
When you commit adultery or fornication, there is a birthing, tearing and opening up of your body to all kinds of demons, principalities and powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places coming down on your body because you failed to be single eyed.
Through out of wedlock sex and lustful desires you expose yourself to everything that is available, everything that you see. Every time you fornicate and commit adultery you give birth to a demon. Every time you watch pornography, masturbate; any kind of sexual immorality, lesbianism, homosexuals, misusing of sex going in and making entrance at the exit gives birth to demons.
All these things going on in the society- older men and women molesting under aged boys and girls, even married people experiment with their spouse. When you do rhythmic withdrawal you sin, God hates it. Genesis 38:7-10 that is why we keep binding and casting out demons non stop.
Demons come into existence through sexual immorality. Wrong use of sex activates dormant demons. That is why we cannot destroy these demons in one single prayer session or night vigil. So when churches, accept homosexuals, lesbians, allowing boyfriends and girlfriends, pre-marital sex and affair in the body of Christ; Guess what? What you see in such churches are not only powerless people, but they are demon infested. There is no power in such churches, they are baby factories giving birth to or manufacturing demons.
Sex is one of the greatest pleasures God created for man and results in procreative fruits of the womb and child birth. But when sex becomes sin, it gives birth to death. James 1:12-16. When David committed adultery with Bathsheba, she gave birth to or brought forth demons. So God had to destroy that seed.
Now what I came to declare today is that your eyes need to be singled. If not you are just wasting time. You cannot inherit the kingdom of God. The Bible says that there are so many sin a man can commit but the sin of fornication and adultery is a sin against your body which is the temple of God. So no committer of adultery and fornication will inherit the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of righteousness.
The kingdom of righteousness is all about oneness of spirit, mind, heart and singleness of one’s eyes towards God. You must be decisive; you must have an undivided heart.
One thing I realize with people who commits fornication and adultery is that, it is very hard for them to make up their mind, they are un-decisive. I have come across many leaders, many educated people when you tell them to tithe they are excited in the arena or environment where you are sharing the revelation with them.
But when they leave the place, they cannot make up their minds because the demons they have given birth to through adultery and fornication starts oppressing them, telling them you must be mad to even consider a thing like that. You mean you are going to take our inheritance and put it in God’s way of doing things which is out-dated.
The demon starts oppressing and persecuting you until you get to the extent that you stop and begin to take a second look, you take a moment and think twice whether the principle works or not; because your eyes is not single.
When I speak to leaders in various conferences, I tell them, their eyes needs to be single if not whatever it is they are giving birth to, it is immorality. Now know this, I like to share this with you, there is no two ways about it, there is no middle ground or a gray zone your eye must be single to work in the miraculous, to live in the prophetic.
The Bible tells us the story of Abraham, Sarah, Hagar and Ishmael. God will always allow certain things to continue and to proceed further in the physical realm to teach us some spiritual lessons. To enable us understand and perceive spiritual implication of his message to us.
Ishmael= Moslem root. Isaac the son of the promise has to now contend with the produce of immorality; Ishmael who claims the promise based on arrival and now persecutes the children of the promise can you imagine? Up till this day we still have radical Moslems who still believe and want to continue to destroy the Jews, the line of promise. This is God’s way of showing us the implication of not being single eyed.
Another instance is Samson. Samson’s eye was not singled. He never employed the principle of allowing his eyes to be single toward God. His eyes were eventually taken out and he died blind because he was attracted to every Delilah in town.
Delilah is a seductive and assertive woman. Women, who are exotic, enticing, destructive and desiring, women who are serpentine in character. The Bible says Delilah desired to know the source of Samson’s power. She made no pretence of her intention. This means that the devil is after your inheritance, to take it away from you. To take away the relationship you have with God.
The scripture says your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Meaning God dwells in your body. And has pleasure in that temple. The thing that makes God depart from his own temple is demons. When you permit demons to come in the glory and Spirit of God departs.
But because of the grace and mercy of God, because He is faithful and just, He promised to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness if we return to him and repent of our iniquities. And He will restore our soul. So we will have to pray for God to circumcise our eyes, to make them single. Because this is the only thing that will interfere with our relationship with God
If you really love God, the only way you can survive this confusing world is to decide to make your eyes single. If you don’t circumcise your eyes, you are going to keep giving birth to demons and those demons will destroy your relationship with God.
Now before I close, for those who still think their eyes are theirs and have the right to see whatever they want to see. I like to tell you, that the demon they are giving birth to will one day conquer your liberty and you will become slaves and labor machines like Samson. Your physical eyes may not be taken out, but you will be spiritually blind. You can’t see God even before rapture. Right now some people don’t even remember their dream, some don’t even dream at all that is a level of spiritual blindness. Today, use Job 31:1 and 7 and make a covenant with God and be of one mind and one accord with the spirit of God. Philippians 2:2. GOD BLESS YOU!
